Description : In India nearly 40% of soils are clayey soils, clayey subgrades exhibits poor performance due to their low shear strength.
Sub soil intrusion into soften subgrade takes place in rainy season leading to intermixing of structural layers of pavement with subgrade. This will cause progressive reduction in thickness. This can be avoided by spreading the wheel load at subgrades by reinforcement. Geosynthetics are good option in achieving improved performance with less pavement thickness. Finally conclusions are drawn from the observations.
