Title : EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENT IN ZIRCONIUM COATED PISTON AND CYLINDER HEAD ON CI ENGINE
Project summary : My project work clearly gives an idea about increasing the net power output of a diesel engine by coating thermal barrier materials like zerconium on the combustion chamber. In IC engine, energy supplied by the fuel is not completely converted into useful work. Some amount of energy will be lost due to the friction, heat losses and incomplete combustion of fuel. These factors affect the efficiency of the engine. To reduce these factors I coated thermally barrier material zirconium on the piston crown and bottom portion of the cylinder. As a result of these I found that the mechanical efficiency and break thermal efficiency increased because of decrease in specific fuel consumption compare to the engine in which combustion chamber is not having any thermal barrier material coating
