“AN EXPERIMENT STUDY ON EFFECTOF DBDS ON PAPER OIL INSULATION OF POWER TRANSFORMER”
There is not one single corrosive sulfur compound that is responsible for all corrosive sulfur issues that are present in all mineral oil filled electrical apparatus depending on the oil ,there can be ten to hundred of different sulfur compounds present in the oil .Of these ,only small fraction are corrosive or are compound that can degrade from stable species into ones that are reactive .This is based on time and temperature.
Only a very few corrosive sulfur compound have been identified of which dibenzyl disulfide (DBDS) is one .this paper only concentrate on DBDS. The reason is that it has been found in many oil that have resulted in recent failure of transformer or reactors.
Corrosion of copper conductor due to dibenzyl disulfide in transformer oil is a serious problem affecting powerand convert transformer .Thought the reactive and corrosive DBDS component are of very low order in fresh transformer oils ,they pose a serious problem as the transformer age .These reactive and corrosive DBDS react with copper and since DBDS is conductive ,it affect the voltage distribution of insulation .experiment study has been carried out to investigate the role of DBDSin leakage current and breakdown of oil and paper insulation and pressboard
