Transgenesis of stem cells using viral vectors under the guidance of Dr.R.V.Shaji [Adjunct Scientist, Center for stem Cell Research,Christian Medical College,Vellore ]
Abstract :
Reprogramming of stem cells is one of the widely researched areas for treatment of various diseases.
Stem cells as such cannot be used in the treatment process; it needs to be reprogrammed (genetically) in such a way that it is more efficient in treating diseases. My work would be focusing on Lenti-viral assisted gene transfer in stem cells. Studies show these vectors possess great transducing property and these viruses have developed the ability to infect the stem cells.
This significantly broadens the utility of lentiviral vectors. The central idea of the work is to develop a vector with better transduction properties and an efficient way in which it can be applied for gene transfer in Stem cells with increased success rates. The developed vector would be subjected to various in-vitro assays that would prove its efficiency in transducing the gene of interests.The aim is to ensure targeted gene delivery into stem cells with higher success rate.
